Another round of talks between the Ukrainian and Russian delegations in Istanbul is possible, but there are currently no concrete plans, Barron's informs.

"If they receive other instructions from Moscow, then it is possible that something will happen today," the outlet cites an unnamed senior official as saying.

He noted that, for now, a new round of talks is not planned.

Talks in Istanbul

Ukrainian and Russian officials held negotiations in Istanbul today, May 16.

According to Axios, the talks lasted just over an hour. However, the parties were unable to achieve significant progress toward ending the war.

Reuters, citing a Ukrainian diplomatic source, reported that Russia’s demands were unrealistic and went beyond what had been discussed previously.

It is worth noting that this was the first direct negotiation between Ukraine and Russia in three years. The primary goal of this dialogue is to establish a ceasefire for at least 30 days.
