Türkiye calls for ceasefire in Ukraine. Ankara believes that Ukraine and Russia have reached the limit of what can be achieved by military means, according to Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan.

"We believe it's time to cease fire in Ukraine. Ceasefire does not mean recognition of occupation. Both sides seem to have reached the limit of what they can achieve through war," he said.

According to the minister, Türkiye believes it's time to separate the issues of recognition of occupation and sovereignty from the issue of ceasefire.

Türkiye's position on the war

The Turkish government maintains a neutral stance on Russia's war against Ukraine. Ankara asserts its support for Ukraine's sovereignty but refrains from directly condemning Moscow.

At the onset of the full-scale war, negotiations between Ukraine and Russia were held in Istanbul, but they did not yield significant results.

Additionally, Türkiye acted as a mediator in establishing the "grain corridor" and facilitating several prisoner exchanges.

Recently, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated that his country continues to seek mediation between Ukraine and Russia.
