There are real prospects for improving relations with Hungary. The foreign ministries of both countries are already preparing for bilateral consultations, said President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Zelenskyy said that together with Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, they have updated Ukraine’s foreign policy priorities for May–June.

"We are maintaining an active dialogue with Hungary’s new authorities, and there are prospects for a constructive reset of relations," the President wrote.

According to him, Andrii Sybiha and other government officials are preparing a format for bilateral consultations with Hungary.

EU accession talks

Separately, discussions were held on work with European institutions regarding the opening of negotiation clusters for Ukraine’s accession to the European Union.

"Ukraine has taken the necessary steps, and it is important to have a clear timeline for the processes," Zelenskyy emphasized.

Zelenskyy also mentioned separate tasks related to negotiations on ending Russia’s war and a possible role for Europe in this process.

"For now, these tasks are not public," he clarified, adding that Ukraine is counting on a strong European position and is working to ensure that pan-European interests are taken into account on equal terms with Ukrainian ones.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha held talks with Hungarian Foreign Minister Anita Orbán and announced readiness to open a new chapter in relations between the two countries.

Meanwhile, Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar said that technical negotiations with Ukraine have begun regarding the protection of linguistic, educational, and cultural rights of the Hungarian community in Zakarpattia.
