Ukraine and Hungary are opening a new chapter in their bilateral relations, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha wrote.

Sybiha expressed gratitude to the Cyprus Presidency "for its leadership in advancing Ukraine's EU accession process."

"I also appreciate Hungary's constructive engagement. We are opening a new chapter in Ukraine-Hungary relations — one built on mutual respect, trust, and our shared European future. Ukraine is moving forward," the minister said.

The foreign minister also thanked all EU member states, the European Commission, and EU institutions for their unwavering support.

Agreement between Ukraine and Hungary

Yesterday, June 3, Hungarian Prime Minister Peter Magyar announced that an agreement had been reached with Ukraine regarding the rights of the Hungarian minority, which could affect EU accession negotiations.

After several weeks of talks, Kyiv and Budapest reached a comprehensive agreement on expanding the linguistic, educational, cultural, and political rights of the Hungarian community in Zakarpattia.

The negotiations involved Ukrainian and Hungarian experts, representatives of Hungarian minority political organizations, and churches.

Magyar noted that the Ukrainian government had agreed to introduce the agreed legislative amendments in the near future. According to him, this will allow the Hungarian community to gain broader rights in the areas of education, culture, language use, and political representation.
