UK naval drones can now detect aerial vehicles within 75-km radius

Saab UK and Kraken have developed a maritime drone hunter designed to protect shipping and critical infrastructure from unmanned aerial vehicles.
"This is a pioneering, UK manufactured, deployable capability, that together with Kraken we’ve developed in less than seven months. This reflects the strength of our partnership, the maturity and flexibility of our respective technologies, and our ability to respond at pace to the evolving threat landscape and needs of our customers," says Andy Fraser, Managing Director of Saab UK.
According to him, the new maritime drone prototype integrates the state-of-the-art Saab Giraffe 1X radar with the Kraken K3 Scout autonomous platform, enabling a system for detecting and countering unmanned aerial vehicles.
The radar has a range of up to 75 kilometers and can simultaneously track and illuminate several dozen aerial targets.
According to the developers, Saab's Giraffe 1X is a lightweight 3D radar designed to detect and track airborne threats in real time. Its integration with an autonomous maritime platform is a step toward realizing the concept of hybrid naval forces, where autonomous vessels operate in coordination with traditional assets.
In Ukraine, as part of the Brave1 defense cluster, a grant competition was announced for the development of humanoid robots for the Ukrainian Defense Forces. Combat robots are intended to minimize risks to Ukrainian military personnel while carrying out combat missions and rotating on the front lines.
The 7th Rapid Response Corps Air Assault Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is already shooting down Shahed drones: according to Colonel Artem Skuratovskyi, the 81st Brigade has confirmed cases of Russian Geran-3 drones being shot down by interceptor drones.
