Ukraine launches two drone strikes on the Russian army's strategic bomber depot in Engels. The attacks caused significant damage, according to the UK Ministry of Defense.

On January 8, 2025, Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles struck the Kristal oil depot in Russia, 8 km from the Engels-2 air base. The strike caused large-scale fires in the storage area of the warehouse, which took several days to extinguish.

According to UK intelligence, another strike was carried out on the Crystal tank farm on the night of January 14, which again caused a fire and further damage to the facility's infrastructure.

An analysis of images from January 21, 2025, revealed 4 estimated destroyed fuel tanks and 10 estimated damaged fuel tanks.

“The repeated strikes indicate an increased Ukrainian ability to target Russian infrastructure,” the UK Ministry of Defense said.

The oil depot near the Engels airfield is one of the key ones for Russian strategic aviation. It stores fuel for bombers that carry out missile strikes on the territory of Ukraine.
