UK intelligence identifies Russian army's next target in Donbas
The town of Chasiv Yar is the nearest tactical objective of the Russian army. However, a full-scale offensive is unlikely, according to the UK Ministry of Defense.
As noted in the report, Russian troops continue to attack to expand control over the city of Bakhmut, which Russia captured in May 2023. Troops have advanced to take the eastern part of the village of Ivanivske and are attacking Ukrainian positions in Bohdanivka.
According to UK intelligence, Russia's immediate operational goal in this area is almost certainly to capture Chasiv Yar, located about 5 km from the front line.
"Despite some gradual tactical gains, it is highly unlikely that Russian forces are currently able to attempt a full-scale assault on the town," the UK Ministry of Defense says.
Situation in Bakhmut area
Russian army continues to actively advance in the areas of Bohdanivka, Ivanivske, Klishchiivka, and Andriivka. Their infantry units and the 98th Guards Airborne Division are involved.

Military expert Oleksandr Kovalenko tells RBC-Ukraine that Chasiv Yar is a large enough settlement and well-fortified to suggest that the Russian army will be able to achieve situational success soon.
