UK intelligence does not believe in major Russian breakthrough at front
The prospect of a major breakthrough by Russia on the Ukrainian front seems unlikely. Moscow continues local attacks on multiple fronts, according to the British Ministry of Defense.
According to the summary, Ukraine has mobilized efforts in recent weeks to improve field fortifications, as its forces shift to a more defensive position along most of the front line. This follows President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's calls since the end of November 2023 to expedite fortification efforts on key fronts.
It is noted that Ukrainian military forces strengthened their positions on the border with Belarus using dragon's teeth, razor wire, and anti-tank ditches. British intelligence emphasizes that the situation on the front remains static, and a major Russian breakthrough is unlikely.
Russia continues local offensive options of several sectors, but individual attacks are rarely above platoon size. A major Russia breakthrough is unlikely and overall, the front is characterized by stasis," the summary states.
Current frontline situation
Currently, Ukrainian military forces are mostly in active defense and, when possible, launch counterattacks, particularly in the Bakhmut region and in the Zaporizhzhia region.
Recently, it became known that Ukrainian soldiers repelled occupiers from one of the spoil heaps in the Horlivka region of the Donetsk region. Fighters also managed to capture enemy positions.
Earlier, the commander of the Tavria operational-strategic group, Oleksandr Tarnavskyi, said that occupiers are increasing artillery activity on the front and launching infantry attacks.
