UAF recaptured one of the spoil heaps in Horlivka and seized enemy positions - Zelenskyy
Ukrainian forces have successfully repelled occupiers from one of the strongholds near Horlivka in the Donetsk region. The soldiers also managed to capture enemy positions, according the Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
"Despite challenging conditions, we retook one of the strongholds in the Horlivka area and seized enemy positions. Now, our flag proudly flies over the stronghold. Horlivka is Ukraine! Donbas is Ukraine!" - wrote Zelenskyy.
The head of the state also commended the soldiers who achieved such success.
"Our heroes are the assault group of the 24th Separate Mechanized Brigade named after King Danylo, the royal brigade," said the president.
Occupation of Horlivka
Horlivka in the Donetsk region has been under temporary occupation by Russia since 2014.
Prior to the onset of Russia's large-scale invasion, in preparation for the resumption of active combat operations, the occupiers conducted an illegal forced mobilization in Horlivka, as well as in other seized territories, recruiting individuals into the ranks of active terrorist armed formations in the region.
In March 2022, reports emerged that the 95th Air Assault Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine managed to enter Horlivka and take control of a part of the city.
However, they were unable to solidify their positions. Subsequently, Ukrainian forces began targeting military facilities of the Russian occupation forces within the city.
Interestingly, on September 21, the Ukrainian Armed Forces successfully gained control of the Bakhmut-Horlivka highway, which is 3 km from the front line, making it possible for both mortars and anti-tank crews to reach that location.
