UK imposes sanctions on Iran over drone production
Sanctions against Iran come into effect today. They target individuals posing threats to people in the United Kingdom and Israel, according to the UK government website.
Sanctions against Iran include a prohibition on exporting components for drones. Additionally, countries worldwide may implement transportation sanctions on vessels that violate sanctions or belong to sanctioned individuals.
UK Foreign Secretary David Cameron stated that Iran continues to pose a threat to people in the UK and destabilize the Middle East by supporting armed groups like Hamas and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad.
"The UK's new sanctions regime on Iran gives us broad new powers to tackle this appalling behavior. Today's designations send a clear signal to the regime that we hold them to account for their actions," Cameron said.
The UK has imposed sanctions on Iranian individuals and entities supporting armed groups that threaten Israel.
As of today, the UK has introduced over 350 sanctions targeting Iranian individuals and entities in response to human rights violations and the regime's harmful impact at the international level.
The individuals and organizations that have fallen under sanctions
The UK sanctions include travel bans and asset freezes on the following individuals:
- Esmail Ghaani: Commander of the Quds Force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC-QF);
- Mohammad Saeed Izaadi: Head of the Palestinian Branch of IRGC-QF and head of the Foreign Operations Department of Abu Jihad;
- Ali Mashhad Shirazi: Member of the Palestinian Branch of IRGC-QF;
- Majid Zoori: Member of the Palestinian Branch of IRGC-QF;
- Mostafa Majid Hani: Member of the Palestinian Branch of IRGC-QF;
- Khaled Kaddumi: Representative of Hamas in Iran;
- Naser Abu Sharif: Representative of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad in Iran.
Additionally, the Palestinian Branch of the Quds Force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC-QF) is also subject to sanctions, including the freezing of assets.
As of today, the UK has imposed over 350 sanctions targeting Iranian individuals and entities in response to human rights violations and their detrimental impact at the international level.
UK sanctions against aggressors
