UK Foreign Secretary calls Russia 'mafia state' and compares Putin to 'slave-owner'
UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy harshly criticizes Russian president Vladimir Putin during a speech at the United Nations. He calls Russia a mafia state, Politico reports.
The agency calls Lemmy's speech “fiery”. Addressing the Russian representative, he says: “We know who you are.”
Criticizing Putin's actions in Ukraine, the UK Foreign Secretary recalled the slave-owning past. He accused the Russian government of a gross violation of international law.
“Your invasion is in your own interests. Yours alone. To expand your mafia state into a mafia empire. An empire built on corruption,” the UK minister says.
Lemmy notes that he was speaking not only as a Briton, a Londoner, and a foreign secretary but also as a Black man whose ancestors were enslaved.
“Imperialism: I know it when I see it. And I will call it out for what it is,” he emphasizes.
UK Storm Shadows missiles for Ukraine
The United Kingdom is one of the leaders in supporting Ukraine. London has provided Ukraine not only with financial assistance but also with military aid.
The UK provided Ukraine with long-range Storm Shadows missiles. Ukrainian troops used these missiles to strike Russian targets in Crimea and other occupied territories of Ukraine.
Ukraine is now calling on the UK to allow the use of Storm Shadows to strike military targets in Russia.
Western media reported that the UK had allegedly granted the permission. But recently, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that the Armed Forces did not use long-range weapons on the territory of the Russian Federation.
