Israel has transferred advanced air defense systems to the United Arab Emirates, including the Iron Beam laser system, to enhance protection against Iranian missiles and drones, according to the Financial Times.

According to the FT's sources, the UAE also received the Spectro detection system, capable of spotting Shahed-type drones from up to 20 km away. Additionally, a version of the Iron Beam laser system, capable of destroying short-range missiles and drones, was transferred.

Israel first used this technology in early 2026 to intercept projectiles fired by the Hezbollah group.

The systems complement the air defense already deployed in the Emirates, including the Iron Dome. Along with the equipment, Israel also sent military personnel to the country to maintain the systems.

Israel also provided the UAE with real-time intelligence regarding Iran's preparations for attacks. Some of the weaponry was transferred even from among prototypes that have not yet undergone full integration.

According to the FT, since the start of the conflict, Iran has launched over 500 ballistic missiles and about 2,000 drones at UAE territory, most of which were successfully intercepted.

The UAE recently announced its withdrawal from OPEC and OPEC+ at the worst possible time for the oil cartel — while the war with Iran is paralyzing supplies through the Strait of Hormuz.

The UAE asked the US for money in case the war in the Middle East continues.
