On Thursday, April 30, the United Arab Emirates announced a ban on its citizens traveling to Iran, Lebanon, and Iraq, according to a post by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the social media platform X.
"In light of current developments, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announces a travel ban on UAE nationals traveling to Iran, Lebanon, and Iraq. The Ministry calls on all UAE nationals currently in these countries to expedite their immediate return to the UAE," the post states.
The ministry also called on its citizens currently in the three aforementioned countries to immediately leave the territories of those states and return to the UAE at the earliest opportunity.
In explaining the call, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs cited the government's commitment to monitoring the well-being of its citizens abroad and ensuring their safety.
US-Iran negotiations to end the war
Since the beginning of April, a two-week truce had come into effect between the US and Iran, aiming to reach a peace agreement during this time and end the war.
However, the parties have not yet reached any decision. Nevertheless, after the ceasefire period expired, US President Donald Trump decided to extend the truce with Iran until Tehran agrees on a single proposal to end the conflict.
Recently, the media reported that Iran had indeed delivered a proposal to the US, which includes lifting the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz (particularly on the US side) but postpones discussions on the nuclear program. Sources in Western media said that Trump viewed the Iranian idea with skepticism.
Meanwhile, CNN sources say that the US and Iran may conclude a peace agreement in phases. The first phase could include a return to the pre-war status quo and the resumption of operations in the Strait of Hormuz without restrictions or tariffs.
