U.S. Vice President: Failure to provide aid to Ukraine would be gift to Putin
The United States of America is giving Russian dictator Vladimir Putin a gift when Congress has been unable to approve new funding for Ukraine's $60 billion aid for several months, says U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris.
"We will work to secure critical weapons and resources that Ukraine so badly needs. And let me be clear: the failure to do so would be a gift to Vladimir Putin," Harris emphasized.
If the U.S. turns its back on Ukraine and abandons its NATO allies, it will encourage not only Putin to go on.
"History offers a clue. If we stand by while an aggressor invades its neighbor with impunity, they will keep going. And in the case of Putin, that means all of Europe would be threatened. If we fail to impose severe consequences on Russia, other authoritarians across the globe would be emboldened," the vice president added.
Harris added that in such a case other authoritarian leaders around the world "would be watching and drawing lessons."
U.S. aid to Ukraine
For several months the U.S. Congress has been unable to approve new funding for aid to Ukraine to continue the supply of weapons and more.
This situation is connected with the disagreement between the Republicans and the Democrats on the issues of border protection, the financing of which was included in the aid package to Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan.
The Senate recently passed a separate bill with money for Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan. In order for it to enter into force, the document still needs to be approved by the House of Representatives and signed by President Joe Biden.
Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mike Johnson, refuses to bring such an initiative up for consideration, as he is against aid to Ukraine without reference to border protection.
