The United States observes Ukrainian troops fighting and advancing in the war against the firmly entrenched Russian armed forces, said U.S. State Department spokesman Matthew Miller.

The State Department acknowledged the challenging situation on the battlefield but highlighted the progress made by Ukrainian forces. Miller reported that U.S. representatives discussed this matter with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba at a meeting in Brussels last week.

The department also expressed concern regarding additional funding for Ukraine.

"It’s why the Secretary joins the President and others in the administration in urging Congress to act as quickly as possible," the State Department spokesman said.

Ukrainian Armed Forces' successes at the front

On November 17, the Ukrainian military announced that it had conducted a series of successful operations on the left bank of the Dnipro River in the Kherson region. The Ukrainian Armed Forces managed to gain a foothold in several footholds.

The General Staff explained that the Ukrainian Armed Forces wanted to push the Russian occupiers away from the right bank of the Dnipro. This will reduce the shelling of civilians.

Southern Defense Forces of Ukraine, Natalia Humeniuk, emphasized that work on the left bank is ongoing. According to her, the operation is complicated by bad weather.

Analysts at the Institute for the Study of War also reported that in early December, Ukrainian troops counterattacked Russian positions in a strip of trees south of Stepove, near Avdiivka, and regained lost ground.
