U.S. Navy aircraft intercepted an Iranian drone over an American aircraft carrier
In a recent incident over the Persian Gulf, an American aircraft intercepted an Iranian unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) in the airspace above the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower aircraft carrier, reports the U.S. Central Command.
According to the statement from the U.S. Central Command, "An aircraft from the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower intercepted an Iranian UAV that flew dangerously and unprofessionally over the aircraft carrier in the Persian Gulf."
It has been reported that the aircraft carrier and accompanying ships were deployed to the Persian Gulf to deter forces in the region.
"The U.S. Navy will continue to operate in accordance with international law, conducting flights and patrols where permitted," stated the U.S. Central Command.
Drone incidents in the Middle East
Earlier, it was reported that an American destroyer in the Red Sea shot down a drone, presumably flying from Yemen towards Israel. Following the incident, the United States called on Iran to cease "irresponsible and unprofessional" drone flights near American military ships.
The drone incident occurred against the backdrop of Washington's state of readiness for potential active measures against groups supported by Iran in the Middle East, during Israel's military operation against Hamas militants in the Gaza Strip.
Additionally, in October, a U.S. military ship intercepted cruise missiles and several drones launched by Houthi rebels from Yemen towards Israel.
