U.S. imposes sanctions against network for purchase of electronics for Russian army
The United States has imposed sanctions on a network involved in defense procurement that supplied military electronics to the Russian Federation, according to the U.S. Department of the Treasury.
Details about the electronics procurement network
"U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) is targeting a network led by Belgium-based Hans De Geetere that is involved in procuring electronics with military applications for Russian end-users," the statement said.
The network comprises nine legal entities and five individuals based in Russia, Belgium, Cyprus, Sweden, Hong Kong, and the Netherlands.
Simultaneously, the U.S. Department of Justice published two separate accusatory findings against Hans De Hert related to his years-long scheme of illegally exporting military-grade technologies from the United States to end-users in China and Russia.
Brian Nelson, Deputy Minister of Finance for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence, stated that the coordinated actions reflect a collective commitment to ensuring compliance with sanctions and export controls, including holding those accountable who attempt to evade these measures.
Who exactly is under sanctions
The U.S. Treasury imposed restrictions on Hans De Hert and some companies he manages:
- Knokke Heist Support Corporation Management;
- Eriner Limited;
- The Mother Ark Ltd;
- European Trading Technology BV.
Sanctions were also introduced against companies that cooperated with the Belgian. Restrictions were imposed on his brother, who collaborated with representatives of the Russian GRU.
Sanctions against Russia
Recently, on November 15, the European Commission presented its proposals for the 12th package of sanctions against Russia to the EU Council. It is proposed to impose sanctions on over 120 individuals and legal entities for their role in undermining the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
Today, the UK government also announced new sanctions targeting individuals and groups that provide and finance the military machine of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.
