U.S. General Milley resigns from his position and criticizes Trump
American General Mark Milley has left the position of Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the United States of America, according to Reuters.
During his final address as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Milley alluded to former U.S. President Donald Trump, referring to him as a "wannabe dictator."
"We don't take an oath a king or queen or a tyrant or dictator. We don't take an oath to a wannabe dictator. We don't take an oath to an individual. We take an oath to the Constitution," the general stated.
In response, U.S. President Joe Biden called Milley "unflinching in the face of danger" and recounted an incident where Milley ran across a mined bridge to prevent two tanks from passing, evacuating wounded troops.
"Mark, your partnership has been invaluable to me," the head of state added.
Milley handed over command to General Charles Brown.
Background
Milley assumed the position of Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff in 2019, nominated by then-President Donald Trump.
This week, former U.S. President Trump stated that Milley deserves to be amounted to a "treasonous act", accusing the general of supposedly negotiating with China behind his back.
President Biden has already responded to Trump's remarks, noting that the silence of Republicans in response to this comment was deafening.
