U.S. comments on potential North Korean drone tests for nuclear weapons
North Korea continues to employ advanced military technologies to pose a threat to security in the region, states John Kirby, the coordinator of the White House National Security and Defense Council.
"I cannot verify the claims that North Korea tests such (nuclear) weapons. It does underscore the continued provocations by Kim Jong Un and his regime in Pyongyang," stated Kirby.
According to him, the United States, in collaboration with South Korea, intends to learn more details soon about possible tests of submarine-launched drones capable of carrying nuclear weapons.
"There is no doubt that they continue to use advanced military capabilities in this way to threaten security in the region," added the White House representative.
What proceeded this
Earlier, North Korea claimed to have tested its underwater nuclear weapon system in protest against the joint military exercises of South Korea, the United States, and Japan, which took place this week.
It is emphasized that the tests of the strike drones, named Haeil-5-23, capable of carrying nuclear weapons, were conducted by the Ministry of Defense center in waters near the country's eastern coast.
