U.S. approved potential sale of Javelin missiles to Kosovo
The United States has approved a potential sale of Javelin missiles and related equipment to the Republic of Kosovo. The estimated value of the deal is $75 million, according to the U.S. Defense Security Cooperation Agency.
Kosovo has requested to purchase 246 Javelin FGM-148F missiles, including six fly-to-buy missiles, and 24 Light Command Launch Units (LWCLU).
The proposed sale also includes:
- Javelin Light Command Launch Unit (LWCLU) trainers;
- Javelin outdoor trainers;
- Javelin training rounds;
- Outdoor Trainer-Instructor Stations (OTIS);
- Battery Cooling Units (BCU)
The proposed sale of Javelin missiles and related equipment will provide Kosovo with modern anti-tank capabilities necessary for defending its sovereignty and territorial integrity. Kosovo will be able to easily integrate this equipment into its armed forces.
"This proposed sale will support the foreign policy goals and national security of the United States by improving the security of a European partner which is an important force for political and economic stability in Europe," the statement said.
Javelin missiles in Ukraine
The United States provided Ukraine with a military assistance package of $250 million, including Javelin missiles.
Estonia also supplied missiles as part of its aid package.
