U.S. Ambassador on morning shelling: Ukraine needs our security assistance now
Ukraine needs security assistance from the United States. In particular, because of this morning's Russian attack, states the U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Bridget Brink.
"Now in Kyiv and around the country, men, women, and children awoke to another massive Russian missile and drone attack. We rely on Ukraine’s air defense - and its heroic air defenders - to protect us all," she said.
She emphasized that the United States has no time to lose.
"Ukraine needs our security assistance now," the ambassador added.
Night attack on February 7
On Wednesday night, an air alert was declared in many regions of Ukraine due to the launch of several groups of Shahed-type attack drones by Russian invaders.
The enemy barrage munitions were reportedly headed for Odesa, Uman, Dnipro, Pavlohrad, and other cities in different regions. In the south of the country, air defense systems were working to repel the enemy attack, the Defense Forces reported.
In the morning, the General Staff of the Armed Forces informed that Russian troops had launched 15 Shahed-type kamikaze drones into Ukraine on the night of February 7, 12 of which were shot down by air defense forces.
In addition, at night around 03:40, Russian Tu-95s were seen taking off from the Olenya airfield in the Murmansk region of the Russian Federation. The Air Force warned that enemy missiles were being launched from the aircraft.
At about 5:00, the alarm was announced in the eastern and southern regions of Ukraine. Later, explosions were reported in Kharkiv due to a missile strike and in Mykolaiv due to an attack by Shahed-type kamikaze drones.
Explosions were also reported in Kyiv region and Cherkasy region.
There were also explosions in Kyiv. In particular, injuries were reported in the Dniprovskyi district, and a fire broke out in a high-rise building in Holosiivskyi district.
