Russia attempted to stage a provocation on the border with Poland. This occurred on the night of November 2 in the Kaliningrad region of Russia, according to Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk.

Suspicious activity at the border

Tusk states that an attempted provocation took place near the border with the Russian region of Königsberg (in Russia, this city is called Kaliningrad—ed.).

"Shortly after midnight, I received a report from a border guard that suspicious activity was being observed on the Polish-Russian border in the north. People with flashlights. We very quickly mobilized the appropriate forces and resources there and were able to prevent the provocation," he says.

The agency learned that the security services had intervened that night specifically near Sempol in the Warmian–Masurian Voivodeship. The Polish border was not crossed. The individuals in question retreated deeper into the Königsberg region.

Russia preparing provocations

The Prime Minister also spoke about a special operation on the border with the Königsberg region.

"We have received information from our services, as well as from allied services, that in these first days of November, acts of sabotage or more serious provocations are possible on the border with Russia, or acts of sabotage organized by hostile services," he said.

According to Tusk, General Alexus Grynkewich, Supreme Allied Commander Europe, had also warned Poland about this.

"After receiving more precise information that incidents, including armed incursions into Poland, could occur at this time, we decided to deploy significant police and counterterrorism forces along the border, as well as to strengthen border security," the politician notes.

Poland ready to prevent

Tusk called on Poles to remain focused and prepared to prevent provocations, as tensions and escalation on Russia's part may continue.

He reported that a command center for special operations is being conducted in the Warmian–Masurian Voivodeship and Podlasie and has been established at the National Police headquarters. The Border Guard Service is also participating in the operations center's work.

Over the next few months, a new serious escalation could occur in Russia's hybrid war against Europe. Donald Tusk made this statement in late October.

In addition, Poland is ready to consider moving border controls onto its own territory due to security risks in Ukraine.
