Turkish Foreign Ministry hopes war in Ukraine will end in 2025
Türkiye believes that Russia's war against Ukraine will come to an end in 2025, ushering in a year of peace for Kyiv, according to statements made by Türkiye's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hakan Fidan.
"This year has been challenging, but we are hopeful for peace in 2025," Fidan remarked.
He emphasized that Ankara sees no grounds for resolution in 2024.
"Above all, we are among the countries calling for peace, both within NATO and on the European platform. This war must cease immediately. Our president urges peace, utilizing all his leadership qualities," Fidan said.
He asserted that Russia's war against Ukraine has morphed into a war of attrition, resulting in losses for both sides.
"The risk of escalation persists. Such a situation concerns us. There is a risk of spreading the conflict throughout the region. Escalation often begins with rhetoric and then transitions into action. Europe should be more concerned about the situation in Ukraine than we are," the minister added.
Erdogan and the war in Ukraine
Türkiye's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has repeatedly expressed his desire to act as a mediator to initiate talks between Russia and Ukraine.
In particular, he has insisted that Türkiye is once again ready to facilitate negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, a process that previously took place in Istanbul.
Negotiations between Russia and Ukraine occurred at the outset of the full-scale invasion, but they were short-lived.
