Trump won't risk escalation in Venezuela due to possible migration surge, expert says

Any radical actions by the US against Venezuela are currently unlikely due to the stable support Nicolas Maduro enjoys among the military, as well as the risk of new mass migration, political observer Uriã Fancelli says in an interview with RBC-Ukraine.
"As long as Maduro has the support of the military, we can't consider anything," Fancelli emphasizes.
According to him, the creation of a new wave of refugees is an undesirable scenario for the administration of US President Donald Trump. He recalled that Brazil has accepted more than 600,000 migrants from Venezuela, Colombia, and more than 3 million, and the US has accepted about 1 million.
"The creation of a new diaspora is also not in Trump's interests," he adds.
The observer also noted that the limited presence of US troops in the region indicates Washington's unwillingness to get involved in a large-scale operation.
"So far, if we look at the military equipment available in the region, everything points that if Trump decides to do some sort of attack, it would be something similar to Iran. Something fast, something aiming at military targets," Fancelli explains.
Tensions between the US and Venezuela
Last week, US President Donald Trump ordered the launch of Operation Southern Spear in the Western Hemisphere, near Venezuela. According to Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth, its goal is to counter drug-terrorist groups.
"This mission defends our Homeland, removes narco-terrorists from our Hemisphere, and secures our Homeland from the drugs that are killing our people," the US Secretary of War says.
In addition, on Sunday, the media reported that amid the escalating situation with Venezuela, the US Navy had deployed a strike group led by the aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford to the Caribbean Sea.
According to CBS News, the Pentagon has already provided Trump with plans for military operations against Venezuela. As noted, all options are ready for implementation in the coming days.
