Trump urges Netanyahu to end Gaza war before his potential presidency, media says
US presidential candidate Donald Trump has asked Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to end the war in the Gaza Strip before he possibly takes over the White House, reports The Times of Israel.
According to the sources, Trump has repeatedly called on Israel to end the war quickly, but this is the first time that a time frame has been added to the request.
According to a former Republican administration official, as well as an Israeli official, Trump first voiced the message during his meeting with Netanyahu at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida in July this year.
The former US official also noted that Trump was not specific in his appeal to Netanyahu and might be able to support Israel's “residual” activity in the Gaza Strip if Tel Aviv officially ends the war.
Only recently, the Israeli Prime Minister said during a faction meeting that his country was not currently at the stage of ending the war. Tel Aviv cannot agree to Hamas's demand to end hostilities in exchange for 101 hostages.
"Trump, himself, warned at the Republican National Convention in July that those holding American hostages abroad will 'pay a very big price' if they aren’t released before he assumes office," the media writes.
Presidential election in the United States
The presidential election in the United States is scheduled for November 5. Donald Trump from the Republican Party and Kamala Harris, who represents the Democratic Party will compete for the post as the main candidates.
According to recent opinion polls, Trump has a slight advantage in the ratings over Harris. A Bloomberg poll shows that their chances remain roughly equal in seven key states that could decide the election.
