During his speech at the UN General Assembly, US President Donald Trump plans to criticize the organization for its inaction in ending wars, including in Ukraine, stated US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

"One of the things the President is going to address is the UN itself. Why do we still have the UN, which has tremendous potential? The UN is an organisation that has the potential to do some great things around the world, but it's not doing it," he said.

He recalled that Russia’s war against Ukraine is ongoing, while the UN "is playing no role." He added that the UN is also failing to act on ending the war between Israel and Hamas.

"I think what the President’s going to do is challenge the UN to find its meaning and its purpose and its utility as an organization because it doesn’t seem to be doing the job, and it's pretty good at spending a lot of money," Rubio said.

Russia in the UN Security Council

Even after launching its full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Russia remains a permanent member of the UN Security Council.

In December 2022, Ukraine initiated the process of seeking Russia’s removal from the Council. However, after nearly three years of effort, there has been no result.

Presidential advisor Mykhailo Podolyak has also called for reforming the UN and depriving Moscow of its veto power.
