Trump to build skyscraper named after himself in Georgia

The tallest skyscraper in the Caucasus will appear in Georgia’s capital. It will bear the name of US President Donald Trump, Domus reports.
What will be built in Tbilisi
The 70-story Trump Tower skyscraper will become the centerpiece of the new architectural complex, The Tbilisi Downtown. In total, the project will consist of six high-rise buildings.
The complex will be built on the site of the former city hippodrome.
The project is being designed by the architectural firm Gensler. Construction is being carried out by the Georgian developer Archi Group, owned by a former lawmaker from the ruling Georgian Dream party.
Sanctions connection
According to available information, the land plot where the tower is planned to be built is indirectly linked to Bidzina Ivanishvili, the founder of the Georgian Dream party and a pro-Russian oligarch.
At the end of 2024, the administration of US President Joe Biden imposed sanctions on Ivanishvili over pro-Russian activities.
Trump had been considering plans to build a skyscraper in Georgia as far back as 2012. At that time, he personally visited the country and met with then-President Mikheil Saakashvili to discuss a 47-story tower in the resort city of Batumi.
The project was ultimately canceled in 2017, when Trump first took office as President of the United States.
As previously reported by RBC-Ukraine, a nearly 1.5 billion Australian dollar Trump Tower project on Australia’s Gold Coast was canceled less than three months after the agreement was signed. A local developer described the Trump brand as "toxic" due to US international policy.
Earlier, in the state of Florida, part of the road leading to Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence was officially named after the current President.
