US President Donald Trump is considering tariffs against countries that oppose his plans to annex Greenland to the US, the American leader made this statement while speaking with journalists.

At a White House event, Trump threatened the leaders of several countries that if they do not raise drug prices, they would face high tariffs on all their imports to the US.

In the context of this strategy, the American leader mentioned Greenland.

"And I may do that for Greenland, too. I may put a tariff on countries if they don't go along with Greenland, because we need Greenland for national security," he said.

Trump’s demands regarding Greenland

US President Donald Trump has recently been regularly talking about how the US needs Greenland. According to him, this is allegedly a matter of national security and protection against Russia and China.

A few days ago, he stated that he wants to build a Golden Dome missile defense system on Greenland. In his view, if NATO does not implement such a plan, Greenland could be taken over by Russia or China.

The American leader is considering both purchasing the island and a military scenario.

At the same time, according to The Economist, Europe is already considering three main scenarios for protecting the island.

These include easing tensions through diplomacy and the Arctic Sentry mission, deterrence and countermeasures against the US through economic pressure and sanctions, and waiting for Trump to shift his focus to other priorities, with his statements turning out to be a strategic bluff.
