On Saturday, February 22, US President Donald Trump held a phone conversation with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. Their call took place ahead of the virtual G7 meeting scheduled for Monday, according to CNN.

During their conversation, the two leaders expressed their anticipation for the upcoming G7 call, which will mark the third anniversary of the Russian-Ukrainian war. Other countries participating in the G7 are the UK, France, Germany, Italy, and Japan.

"The leaders expressed pride in the excellence of both nations’ teams that faced off in a hard-fought hockey championship. The discussion turned to Monday’s G7 call that will mark the third anniversary of the invasion and war in Ukraine. Prime Minister Trudeau echoed President Trump’s desire to see an end to the war," said a White House statement.

Meanwhile, according to the Canadian Prime Minister's Office, Trudeau also updated Trump on the progress in curbing the flow of fentanyl across the US-Canada border.

Just over a week ago, Justin Trudeau once again rejected Trump's idea of making Canada the 51st state of the US, stating that the country had no such intentions.
