US President Donald Trump believes that Chinese leader Xi Jinping is inclined to bring the war in Ukraine to an end and is ready to contribute to this effort, according to a White House broadcast.

During a conversation with journalists, Trump said that the United States was making every effort to resolve the situation between Russia and Ukraine. He noted that he hoped the war would come to an end and that Xi Jinping would take part in the process.

He added that he and President Xi had already discussed the matter, that Xi also wanted the war to be over, and that he believed the Chinese leader would cooperate with the United States to help achieve this.

Trump–Xi Jinping talks and Ukraine issue

On Friday, September 19, Trump and Xi Jinping held a phone call. According to the American leader, the call was very productive, and the two sides made progress on many issues, including the war in Ukraine.

"We made progress on many very important issues, including Trade, Fentanyl, the need to bring the War between Russia and Ukraine to an end, and the approval of the TikTok Deal," the American leader specified.

He also announced that he and Xi Jinping agreed to meet at the APEC leaders’ summit in South Korea.

In addition, the two leaders agreed that Trump will visit China early next year, while Xi Jinping will come to the United States at a "appropriate time."

Chinese media, including Xinhua, also reported on several agreements but did not mention any discussion about ending Russia’s war against Ukraine.

As is known, after the summit in Alaska and Trump’s meetings with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and European leaders, expectations grew that the question of ending the war was nearing a logical conclusion.

In particular, a bilateral meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Russian President Vladimir Putin was expected, followed by a trilateral summit with the US leader. However, Russia once again began inventing reasons to prevent this from happening.
