President of the United States Donald Trump suggested that he might call Russian leader Vladimir Putin to discuss a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine, reports CNN.

The American leader told reporters aboard Air Force One that he should meet with Putin.

"I think we’ll solve it, or maybe not, but at least we’ll know. And if we don’t solve it, it will be very interesting," he said.

Trump-Putin meeting

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy agreed to direct negotiations with Russia, as proposed by Putin. The Ukrainian leader noted that he would speak exclusively with the head of the Kremlin and would wait for him on May 15 in Türkiye. The president of Russia ignored the meeting and sent low-level Kremlin officials to Istanbul.

Yesterday, on May 15, Trump stated that he does not expect any progress in negotiations on Ukraine until he personally meets with Putin.

Meanwhile, Deputy Assistant to the US President Sebastian Gorka said that the meeting between Trump and Putin will take place when the appropriate moment comes. He specifically added that their meeting is "imminent."
