US President Donald Trump has not ruled out the possibility of a quick end to the war between Ukraine and Russia, according to remarks made by the president during a leadership roundtable at the White House on October 8.

"We settled seven wars. We're close to settling an eighth. And I think we'll end up settling the Russia situation, which is horrible," the US president said.

Trump's peace efforts

Since taking office, Donald Trump has made ending the war between Ukraine and Russia one of his top foreign policy priorities.

Over the past eight months, the US president has held multiple phone conversations with Russian leader Vladimir Putin.

In August, Trump and Putin even met at a summit in Alaska, where they discussed possible steps toward achieving peace.

However, following the meeting, the Kremlin escalated its attacks on Ukraine, prompting Trump to admit that Putin had let him down in efforts toward a peaceful settlement.

Recently, the US president acknowledged that ending the war in Ukraine will be more difficult than achieving peace in the Middle East.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has repeatedly expressed his readiness to meet with Putin to bring peace closer.

Nevertheless, the Russian dictator continues to put forward impossible demands that would amount to Ukraine’s full capitulation.
