Trump stands at a 'Churchill–Chamberlain crossroads' over Ukraine's sovereignty, says Kellogg's daughter

US President Donald Trump is at a crossroads. However, Ukraine's sovereignty cannot be traded for the illusion of stability, said Meaghan Mobbs, daughter of Trump's Special Envoy Keith Kellogg.
"It is increasingly clear President Trump stands at a Churchill–Chamberlain crossroads. You cannot trade another nation’s sovereignty for the illusion of stability," Mobbs wrote, commenting on the situation around Ukraine.
She also added that Trump's choice will determine not only Ukraine’s fate but also the future security of the US and the entire free world.
Trump's meeting with Putin and the challenges of peace in Ukraine
Last night, US President Donald Trump announced that he will meet with Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin next Friday, August 15.
A few hours earlier, Trump spoke to reporters. He said there could be a territory swap between Ukraine and Russia.
The Wall Street Journal reported that during the visit of Trump's Special Envoy Steve Witkoff to Moscow, Putin agreed to a ceasefire on the condition that Ukraine withdraw its troops from the Donetsk region.
However, Bild later reported that Witkoff misunderstood Putin. Specifically, the US envoy claimed Russia agreed to withdraw troops from the Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions. In reality, Putin meant that the Ukrainian Armed Forces should leave those regions.
In the morning, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy responded to the reports about Ukraine. He said the country will not give up its territories to Russia and that the territorial issue is settled in the Constitution.
According to The Wall Street Journal, European countries, together with Ukraine, presented their plan to end the war ahead of the Trump-Putin meeting.
The European side rejected Russia's proposal to exchange Ukrainian-controlled parts of the Donetsk region for a ceasefire.
On the contrary, Europe's proposal demands a ceasefire before any other steps. If a territory exchange is to be discussed, it must be reciprocal. Concessions should come from both sides, not only from Ukraine.
