US President Donald Trump has issued a statement on Truth Social in support of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, calling him a "great hero" and the case against him a "witch hunt" that must be stopped.

On Wednesday, June 25, Trump urged Israel to immediately cancel the trial against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu or give him a pardon without delay.

Trump also accused Israel's judiciary of targeting Netanyahu and labeled the legal proceedings against him "a witch hunt."

Trump wrote that "it is going to be the United States of America that saves Bibi Netanyahu," adding that the USA would once again step in to protect Netanyahu, just as it once did for Israel itself.

Trump calls Netanyahu 'a great hero'

The US President said Netanyahu is "a great hero" who, according to Trump, played a key role in defending Israel, especially during confrontations with Iran. In Trump's view, the trial is not worth pursuing and should be either dismissed or ended with a presidential pardon.

Trial continues, but no pardon is yet on table

Netanyahu is currently standing trial in Israel on charges of corruption, including bribery, fraud, and breach of trust - a case that has been ongoing since 2019.

Court hearings officially began in June 2025, and the process is expected to last about a year.

Israeli President Isaac Herzog has already stated that a pardon is not currently being considered, as no formal request has been submitted.

Israel-Iran war

Since June 13, Israel and Iran have been exchanging daily strikes. Israel launched attacks in response to what it viewed as a direct threat from Iran's nuclear program - a program Tel Aviv considers a serious danger to its national security.

The US entered the conflict on June 22, launching airstrikes with bunker-buster bombs on Iranian nuclear facilities in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan.

In retaliation, Tehran carried out a military strike on the US Al Udeid airbase in Qatar, the largest American facility in the Middle East, which also serves as the Headquarters of US Central Command (CENTCOM).

Then, on June 24, Trump announced that Iran and Israel had fully agreed to a ceasefire.
