During a conversation with journalists, US President Donald Trump stated that Russia could avoid sanctions if it signs a peace agreement with Ukraine.

In particular, reporters asked the Head of the White House whether there was anything the Russians could do to avoid further sanctions.

In response, Trump said that the key to lifting sanctions lies in reaching a peace deal that would put an end to the losses on both sides.

"Yeah, I get a deal with people stop getting killed. They had a number that just came out that a tremendous number of Russian soldiers are being killed, and likewise, Ukraine, a lower number, but still thousands and thousands of people. Now we're adding towns with it being hit by missiles, so it's a lot of people being killed in that ridiculous war," the US President stated.

Trump's deadline for Russia

Trump recently shortened the deadline for Russia to reach a peace with Ukraine to 10 days. The new deadline expires on August 8. Despite the US President's statements, the Kremlin has declared its intention to continue its aggressive war.

In addition, US Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff is scheduled to visit Russia later this week.
