A Pentagon spokesperson announced the early deployment of US Marines and amphibious ships to the Middle East to reinforce the force engaged in countering Iran, Newsmax reports.
Accelerated deployment of forces
The US military has accelerated the deployment of thousands of Marines and amphibious ships to the Middle East.
According to sources, an amphibious task force led by the USS Boxer and the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit departed from the US West Coast ahead of schedule.
Amphibious task force composition
The task force includes the amphibious transport dock ships USS Portland and USS Comstock.
There are about 4,000 service members on board, including 2,500 Marines.
In addition to personnel, the ships are carrying F-35 fighter jets, missiles, and equipment to support landing troops ashore.
Route through Indo-Pacific region
On its way to the Middle East, the group will pass through the Indo-Pacific region.
Upon arrival in the conflict zone, it will join forces with the amphibious assault ship USS Tripoli.
Later, the cruiser USS New Orleans and the amphibious transport dock USS Rushmore will join the formation.
Total strength and mission
As a result of the deployment, approximately 8,000 troops will be delivered to the conflict zone, including up to 5,000 Marines.
The primary objective is to reinforce the force and support operations against Iran, including the possible use of aviation and amphibious equipment.
Deployment significance
The early deployment of Marines and equipment allows the US to build up forces in a strategically important area rapidly.
This move demonstrates the military’s readiness to respond to threats and maintain stability in the region.
Approximately 65% of Americans believe that US President Donald Trump is capable of ordering the deployment of troops to Iran, but only 7% of the population approves of such a move.
The administration of US President Donald Trump has decided to expedite the delivery of billions of dollars in arms to the UAE, Kuwait, and Jordan, bypassing Congress, due to threats from Iran.
