US President Donald Trump said in an interview with The New York Times that the United States has a larger nuclear arsenal and better weapons than Russia.

During a conversation with journalists, Trump denied claims that Russia has a nuclear weapons advantage.

According to him, the US has more nuclear warheads, but he stressed that this is irrelevant because only one is needed.

"But we have more than they do. We have better than they do. We have better military equipment than they do," he says.

The US President also stresses that American military equipment is superior to Russian equipment. According to him, this has been repeatedly confirmed in practice.

In addition, Trump spoke ironically about the effectiveness of Russian air defense. He said that during the American operation in Venezuela, Russian air defense systems did not show high effectiveness.

"It’s proven, because if you look at their air defense for Venezuela, I would say it wasn’t exactly great," Trump says.

Nuclear tests

In October 2025, Donald Trump announced his intention to resume nuclear testing for the first time in 33 years.

On social media, he said he had instructed the Pentagon to test the US nuclear arsenal on an equal footing with other nuclear powers.

At the same time, he stressed that the US has more nuclear weapons than any other country.

Later, aboard Air Force One, Trump confirmed that the US's return to nuclear testing after more than a 30-year moratorium could be appropriate.

At the same time, he noted that he was negotiating with Russia on denuclearization. The President did not specify the exact dates and locations of possible tests, limiting himself to the statement that they have test sites and this would be announced.
