US President Donald Trump has stated that the United States has completely defeated Iran's military, including its navy and air force.
In his latest post, Trump again suggested that media outlets are spreading fake news when reporting on a US defeat.
"The fake news media is crazy, or just plain corrupt! The United States has completely destroyed Iran's military, including their entire navy and air force, and everything else. Their leadership is dead!" Trump wrote.
He added that the Strait of Hormuz will soon reopen, and that empty ships are "rushing" to the United States to "load up" with oil.
"But, if you listen to the fake news, we're losing," he concluded.
Ceasefire, war-ending talks
Earlier this week, Donald Trump agreed to a two-week ceasefire with Iran in exchange for reopening the Strait of Hormuz. During this period, the sides are expected to reach a final agreement.
However, shortly after the strait was reopened, Iran closed it again. According to reports, this followed Israeli strikes on Lebanon. The New York Times also reported that Iran cannot locate and neutralize its own naval mines.
Meanwhile, Trump said today that the United States has begun clearing mines in the Strait of Hormuz. At the same time, Axios reported that several Navy vessels entered the strait and then left it.
All of this happens amid a visit by US Vice President JD Vance and senior Iranian officials to Pakistan, where the first round of indirect and direct talks since the ceasefire began is taking place.
