The US and Russia are moving closer to resolving the war in Ukraine. The two sides are now closer to a settlement than ever before, US President Donald Trump said, according to the White House.
According to the US leader, he recently discussed efforts to resolve the war with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Trump noted that during the conversation, he also asked for the release of American citizen Stephen Hubbard, and the Russian side agreed.
"The other day I was talking to Vladimir Putin about settling his war with Ukraine, which I think we're getting closer to, by the way — maybe now the closest we've been," he said.
Earlier, the US leader expressed his desire to sign a peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia during the G20 summit, which is scheduled to take place in Florida in December.
According to media reports, the negotiations could take place under pressure on Kyiv.
In addition, the US special envoy recently made a statement about his meeting with Putin, during which the sides discussed a framework peace agreement.
Further talks between the US, Ukraine, and Russia are expected to continue in a trilateral format at the technical level.
