Trump says he wants long-term peace in Ukraine, not just for 2 years

A peace deal between Russia and Ukraine must last for the long term. It is entirely possible, stated US President Donald Trump during a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in the Oval Office.
"We're going to work with Ukraine, we're going to work with everybody. We're going to make sure that this peace is going to stay a long term, very long term. We're not talking about a two-year peace, and then we end up in this mess again," Trump said.
Trump stated that if a peace agreement is made, it will last.
"I think we can get peace, it's going to work. I have no doubt about it," he added.
Meeting in Washington
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy is meeting with US President Donald Trump in Washington on August 18.
Zelenskyy arrived for talks with backing from European leaders, including Ursula von der Leyen, Friedrich Merz, Keir Starmer, Emmanuel Macron, and NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte.
A senior Ukrainian official close to the president said Zelenskyy’s goal is to establish a productive peace process without forcing Ukraine to take impossible steps, such as withdrawing troops from the Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
To this end, the Ukrainian President is reportedly ready to accept an acceptable compromise on the current front line that Ukrainians could support, the official told the FT.
According to Reuters, Vladimir Putin presented a series of demands to end the war in Ukraine during a meeting with US President Trump in Alaska. He seeks the withdrawal of Ukrainian forces from Donetsk and Luhansk in exchange for a commitment to halt fighting in the Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions.
