US President Donald Trump announced the possibility of holding a trilateral summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to discuss ways to peacefully resolve the conflict in Ukraine, according to his remarks made while speaking to journalists at the White House.

“I think... my instinct really tells me that we have a shot at it. Okay? And you'll find that out later on and maybe even today, but we have a shot at it. Look, it's uh it's got to be solved,” Trump said during a press conference.

Trump’s statement came after a series of negotiations between American, European, and Ukrainian diplomats who are working to resolve the conflict in Ukraine.

Experts, however, warn that even if the summit takes place, the decisions will be extremely difficult due to the conflicting interests of the parties involved.

What is known about the territorial issue in the Russia-Ukraine conflict

On August 6, it became known that Witkoff visited Moscow. There, he met with Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss the possibility of ending Russia’s war against Ukraine.

US President’s special envoy Steve Witkoff reportedly proposed to Putin a plan concerning a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine.

In the agreement being prepared by American and Russian officials, Moscow may retain control over the occupied territories.

In turn, Russian President Vladimir Putin informed US special envoy Steve Witkoff that he is ready to agree to a full ceasefire on the condition that Ukraine withdraw its troops from the entire eastern part of the Donetsk region.
