US President-elect Donald Trump's team is discussing the possibility of holding direct talks with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. This could give a new diplomatic impetus, Reuters reports.

According to the agency, the team believes that a new diplomatic push could reduce the risks of armed conflict. In particular, Trump sees a direct approach that would build on existing relations as the most likely way to break the ice with Kim.

According to sources, political discussions are fluid, and the president-elect has not made any final decisions.

At the same time, it is unclear what Kim Jong Un can offer Trump in return. After all, North Korea has ignored four years of calls from US President Joe Biden to start negotiations without preconditions. North Korea hopes to expand its missile arsenal and strengthen relations with Russia.

Trump, during his presidential term in 2017-2021, held three meetings with Kim: in Singapore, Hanoi, and on the Korean border - the first time the current US president set foot on the territory of North Korea. However, their diplomacy did not yield concrete results, although Trump described their talks as “falling in love.”

Trump's peace plan

Earlier, RBC-Ukraine reported that neither Donald Trump nor people from his current team have yet addressed Kyiv directly with substantive proposals. However, Trump had previously assured that if he became president of the United States, he would “end the war in 24 hours” because he knew Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin well.

But after he met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, he said that he wanted a fair deal for all parties in the context of the war in Ukraine.
