US Special Representative Steve Witkoff refused to condemn Russian attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure, Bloomberg reports.
"Everyone wants to get to a peace deal," Witkoff says in an interview with Bloomberg TV.
He refuses to condemn Russian attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure, which left much of Kyiv without water, heating, and electricity during severe frosts.
"They are in a war, they are shooting at each other," the US President's special envoy says.
Russian strikes on Ukraine's energy sector
Due to Russia's constant attacks on energy facilities in Ukraine, a state of emergency has been declared in the energy sector. The most difficult situation is currently in Kyiv, where serious problems with heat, water, and electricity arose after the occupier's strikes on January 9 and subsequent attacks.
Since January 15, a special headquarters has been operating in the capital, created on the orders of the president to deal with the consequences of the shelling.
For more than ten days, Kyiv residents have been living with emergency power cuts, which are in effect without a clear schedule, and some homes still have no heating.
In addition, on the night of January 20, Russian troops struck Kyiv with ballistic missiles and drones again. Powerful explosions were heard in the capital, leading to power outages in a number of areas. Thousands of homes were left without heating.
Water infrastructure facilities were also cut off from power, causing water supplies in most areas to either stop completely or be provided at reduced pressure.
