The Peace Board under US President Donald Trump is preparing a 15-point plan for the disarmament of Hamas, which Washington considers a necessary condition for the reconstruction and rebuilding of the Gaza Strip after the war, Bloomberg reports.

According to the chief envoy of the Peace Board, Nikolay Mladenov, two versions of the so-called road map are currently being discussed.

Speaking in Jerusalem, he said that Hamas could have a political future if it agrees to the peace process and takes on relevant obligations.

At the same time, members of the group who are unwilling to participate in such a process could be offered safe passage to third countries.

"This is not a political demand. This is a requirement of the process," Mladenov emphasized, commenting on the issue of Hamas’s disarmament.

As noted in the material, seven months after the ceasefire brokered by the United States, there has still been no significant progress in Gaza’s reconstruction. One of the main reasons is that Hamas has not laid down its weapons as envisaged in the agreements.

In addition, the Iran-backed group opposes the expansion of Israel’s military presence in Palestinian territory.

Despite the ceasefire regime, about 90% of Gaza’s population, according to estimates by the parties, remains displaced. Meanwhile, Israel continues to expand its control over parts of the enclave and does not rule out the possibility of intensifying its military operation.

Earlier talks between Hamas and the Peace Board on a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip were jeopardized due to disputes over the group’s disarmament and the transition to the second phase of the peace agreement.

Hamas demanded full implementation of the first phase of the agreement, the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza, and guarantees for the creation of an independent Palestinian state. At the same time, Israel refused to change its position and said it intended to maintain a military presence in strategic areas of the Strip.
