Trump's order to halt international aid does not apply to Ukraine, Pentagon says
US President Donald Trump's executive order imposing a 90-day pause on international aid does not apply to military assistance for Ukraine. Therefore, it will not affect arms deliveries to the Ukrainian Armed Forces, said Pentagon representative to the Voice of America.
The Pentagon stated that security assistance to Ukraine is not subject to the restrictions outlined in the recent foreign aid executive order, as it pertains only to development programs and not military support.
This means that contracts for the production of weapons for Ukraine under the USAI program, established by the Biden administration, remain in effect.
Additionally, Trump's executive order does not affect any residual or previously planned weapons supplies from US stockpiles under the PDA program, announced by Joe Biden.
However, it remains unclear how exactly Trump's executive order might impact non-military aid to Ukraine.
Trump's executive order on halting international aid
On January 20, the first day of his second presidential term, Donald Trump issued a series of executive orders. Among them was an order suspending US assistance to other countries for 90 days.
According to the text of the order, US policy dictates that no further foreign assistance should be provided in a way that is not fully aligned with the President's foreign policy.
The 90-day pause in US international aid will be used to assess program effectiveness and alignment with US foreign policy.
The order specifically refers to development assistance funding, meaning non-military aid.
