Starting in early November, the United States will introduce new regulations for truck importers, implementing a 25% tariff that will affect shipments of large and medium-duty trucks from abroad, according to Reuters.

US President Donald Trump has approved a decision to impose a 25% tariff on imports of medium- and heavy-duty trucks, with the measure set to take effect on November 1, 2025. The new regulation will cover a wide range of vehicles, including trucks, buses, garbage collection vehicles, and specialized machinery.

According to the announcement, the tariff will apply to all foreign-manufactured medium and heavy-duty vehicles entering the United States. The move aims to support the American automotive industry and reduce the country’s reliance on imported vehicles.

Impact on manufacturers and market

The tariff will affect commercial vehicles, utility trucks, school and transit buses, tractor-trailers, semi-trailers, and other specialized equipment.

Experts predict the new measure will increase prices for commercial vehicles and put additional pressure on foreign manufacturers operating in the US market. The White House argues the tariff will stimulate domestic production and boost employment in the automotive sector, though consumers are likely to face higher prices for imported models.

Continuation of Trump's trade policy

This decision follows a series of protectionist trade measures introduced by the Trump administration. In late September, the president announced new import tariffs on wood and wood products, 10% on lumber and 25% on kitchen cabinets and upholstered furniture.

Trump recently told senior military officials that he intends to strengthen the US armed forces, emphasizing his goal of restoring America’s position as the world’s leading military power.

Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the Republican Party has already decided on its presidential candidate for the upcoming elections, with an official announcement expected soon.
