Trump's future adviser makes statement on Russia's war against Ukraine
Michael Waltz, a future adviser to President-elect Donald Trump, compared the Russian-Ukrainian war to the trench warfare of World War I. He insisted that the conflict must be stopped and that work would be done to do so.
He commented on the decision of the current US President Joe Biden to allow Ukraine to use anti-personnel landmines. In particular, Waltz said that these are “smart mines,” but at the same time insisted that the decision “needs to be within a broader framework to end this conflict.”
“It is just an absolute meat grinder of people and personnel on that front. It is more like World War I trench warfare,” he said.
Waltz noted that Trump is “incredibly concerned” about the conflict. In addition, he answered the question of why the US president-elect does not speak about the situation in Ukraine so often. According to him, the future head of the White House is concerned about the escalation and where it is going.
“President Trump is incredibly concerned about the carnage that is taking place there and again, how do we restore deterrence and how do we bring peace? We need to bring this to a responsible end. We need to restore deterrence, restore peace, and get ahead of this escalation ladder rather than responding to it,” Trump's national security adviser said.
Waltz also said that Trump's team will work on peace talks with the current Biden administration, and will do so immediately after the newly elected US president comes to the White House.
“President Trump has been very clear... What we need to be discussing is who's at that table, whether it's an agreement, an armistice, how to get both sides to the table, and then what's the framework of a deal. That's what we'll be working with this administration until January and then beyond,” Waltz said.
He also noted that Europeans should play a key role in the process of restoring peace.
In the same interview, Michael Waltz confirmed that Donald Trump's team is working closely with the administration of US President Joe Biden. In particular, on the war in Ukraine and other important national security issues.
