The statements made by US leader Donald Trump about Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy do not reflect the views of the entire Republican party in the United States, The Hill reports, citing Republican Congressman Don Bacon.

"The President needs a do-over day – and start again. He took a bad turn. I think what he said is wrong, and it’s a shame," Bacon said while commenting on Trump’s statements.

The congressman emphasized that Zelenskyy was democratically elected. He added that the US President's words do not reflect the views of the entire Republican party.

"Many Republicans know what the President said today was wrong. Ukraine is the victim. And I would ask that our President stand on the side of freedom, the side of democracy, the side of the victim, not the invader, and stick up for what’s right," Bacon said.

Bacon further added that Trump should help end the war "in the right way, not in an un-noble way."

"We’re standing on the side of the dictator, not the side of democracy," the Republican stated.

Conflict between Trump and Zelenskyy

Recently, a conflict erupted between US leader Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Trump claimed that reportedly the approval rating of Zelenskyy among Ukrainians is 4%.

In his turn, the President of Ukraine said that this information was being promoted by Russia and urged Trump not to repeat Moscow’s disinformation.

In response to the criticism, the American President called Zelenskyy a "dictator without elections."

Meanwhile, the internal polls confirm that Zelenskyy’s approval rating among Ukrainians is over 50%. Amid Trump’s accusations, European leaders expressed their support for the Ukrainian President.
