US President Donald Trump is ready to present security guarantees for Ukraine to Congress. American officials described the package as "platinum standard," reports CNN.

"This is the most robust set of security protocols they have ever seen. It is a very, very strong package," said a senior US official, without specifying exactly what the US is promising.

Another official stated that Trump is prepared to submit US-backed security guarantees to Congress, calling the package the "platinum standard" of what Washington can offer Kyiv.

CNN notes that "Trump believes he can get Moscow to accept the guarantees."

Security guarantees for Ukraine

Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine plans to finalize two security guarantee agreements: a trilateral document with the US and Europe, and a bilateral document providing security guarantees from the US alone.

The 20-point peace plan that Kyiv is coordinating with Washington includes provisions for security guarantees. The plan states that Ukraine would receive protections modeled after Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty.

The US reportedly wants to provide Ukraine with security guarantees for 15 years, with the option to extend them. Zelenskyy, however, said the country requires a longer timeframe.

RBC-Ukraine previously reported that Zelenskyy emphasized that any referendum in Ukraine should address not only territorial issues but the full scope of the US peace plan.

He said the idea for a referendum was proposed by the US. Zelenskyy stressed that security is the key concern and added that Ukraine's partners have enough leverage to either compel or negotiate with Russia to ensure safety during the presidential elections or a referendum.
