China's decision to impose a 34% tariff on imported US goods in addition to existing duties is "wrong," US President Donald Trump wrote on the social network Truth Social.

"China played it wrong, they panicked - the one thing they cannot afford to do!" Trump noted.

Trump's tariffs and China's response

On April 2, US President Donald Trump signed an order to impose tariffs on imports from over 180 countries. He explained this move as a necessary response to "unfair tariffs" that other countries apply to American products.

According to the document, mutual tariffs ranging from 11% to 48% will be introduced for specific countries, while the "basic" rate of 10% will apply to others.

In the case of China, the US president announced that the country would be subject to a 34% tariff in addition to the previous 20%.

In turn, China's Ministry of Commerce called for the immediate cancellation of the tariffs and threatened "countermeasures."

Today, it was revealed that China announced the imposition of a 34% tariff on imported US goods in addition to existing duties, which will come into effect on April 10.
